Eindwerk industrieel ontwerpen, The aim of this thesis was to investigate if there are possibility's to create light in the darkness without the help of conventional energy storage devices. The research of thesis was performed in different areas. First area was to understand the concept of light. The effect of light and all its aspects on the eye was studied. To create energy, the possible different methods of alternative energy where researched. Eventually the constant torque spring was chosen because of its sustainable and independent features. The constant torque spring in combination with a brushless DC is to give energy to the system. This means with each time we rewind the spring energy can be harvested by the system, until like batteries how intent to fail after a certain period of time. To make something readable in the dark we do not only need light, but also a device to make the light uniform. For this purpose different physical optical effects were studied, to create a device that is able to spread the light over a certain area. The next important area of this thesis is a functional and ergonomic design that can be used by everyone. Therefore the interaction design was based on the 7 principals of design for all (DfA).
